SMDI provides a variety of services for designers, photographers, ad agencies, graphic artists, printers, publishers and fine artists, among others. These services include high resolution, wide format inkjet output, custom print coatings applied with a High Volume, Low Pressure (HVLP) spray system, custom mounting for canvas and slide and image scanning.
We feature the Epson 9600 inkjet printer for dazzling, photographic-quality prints at resolutions up to 2,880 dpi, and up to 44 inches wide by 100 feet long. SMDI uses only genuine Epson UltraChrome Pigmented Inks in our 9600 printer, guaranteeing long lasting, fade resistant color. We stock Premium Epson Papers, including 10-mil glossy, semi-matte. luster and enhanced matte. We also stock 21-mil LexJet canvas and cotton art papers and Hahnemuhle's William Turner, Torchon and 100% Cotton Photo Rag. Fabrics such as FAB-6 and a wide variety of other media are also available. For outdoor signage, we offer vinyl banner material, including a variety of finishing and mounting options. Special media needs and special requests are welcomed.
To get the best results out of our Epson printer, we use the highly regarded ImagePrint Raster Image Processor. This RIP flawlessly converts your digital PSD, PDF, JPEG and TIFF files into finished graphics, giving you exactly what you saw on your monitor or proof. The RIP has special color management features that can optimize a print for a variety of lighting conditions, including daylight, tungsten or fluorescent. And, for the fine art photographer, its special B&W printing mode allows for neutral grays or a variety of other tones and tints.
SMDI image scanning services include scanning 35MM slides or negatives at resolutions of up to 4,000 dpi and 42-bits per pixel with our Nikon film scanner. We also scan reflective art up to 8.5 x 11 inches at up to 2,400 dpi at 24-bits per pixel.
HVLP coatings, especially for canvas, can be ordered in gloss, matte or satin finishes. Custom blends are also available. These coatings are recommended to protect prints from fading, moisture and abrasion.
